PAST EVENT: IV HISPANIC-GHANAIAN INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR
On the 10th of April 2025, the Centre for Latin American Studies, Department of European Languages and School of Education and Leadership in collaboration with University of Valladolid and the Embassy of Spain in Ghana organised the 4th Hispanic Ghanaian International Seminar under the Erasmus+ KA171 programme, held at Maison Française, UG, themed “Innovative Approaches to Teaching: Bridging Cultures, Enhancing Pedagogy and Preparing Future Educators.”
Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Ángel Lossada Torres-Quevedo, underscored the importance of intercultural communication and linguistic diversity.
Presenting on the subject “The Global African Education Today,” Keynote Speaker Prof. Justo Bolekia Boleká from the University of Salamanca, Spain, offered a critical perspective on Africa’s educational systems, calling attention to the importance of preserving indigenous languages while promoting the teaching and
learning of foreign languages.
Senior Lecturer at the Department of Teacher Education, Dr. Salifu Maigairi Mohammed, has underscored the need for culturally responsive and innovative pedagogy aligned with global education goals. “Shifts in education curricular, teaching approaches and embracing cultural responsiveness must synergistically be connected to preservice teacher education,” he stated.
The seminar also included two roundtable discussions which focused on advancing cultural sensitivity and inclusivity in education. The panelists were made up of students from Ghana and volunteers from the University of Valladolid (UVa) in Spain.
Organised by UG’s Centre for Latin American Studies, the University of Valladolid (UVa), Department of European Languages and the School of Education and Leadership (SEL), UG, the seminar brought together faculty, students and international guests.
