On 5th June 2025, the Centre for Latin American Studies at the University of Ghana, in collaboration with the Embassy of Mexico in Ghana, hosted a hybrid seminar on the theme "Mexico's Cultural Diversity: Emphasis on Mexican Afro-Roots." The event featured Her Excellency Norma Ang Sánchez, Ambassador of Mexico to Ghana, as the special guest. In attendance were Prof. Benedicta Lomotey, Director of the Centre, Dr. Setor Donné Novieto (Senior Lecturer), and Dr. Charles Noa Bela (Lecturer and Moderator of the event). The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Doris Careaga from the University of New Mexico, USA, who shared deep insights into the contributions of Afro-Mexican communities to the country’s cultural identity.
The seminar was held at the Centre’s Seminar Room and attended by students, and also lecturers. Some guests also joined virtually including the founding Director, Dr. Joanna Boampong. The event sparked thought-provoking discussions, especially during the interactive Q&A session, and reinforced the Centre’s commitment to promoting cross-cultural dialogue and research on Latin America’s diverse heritage.
